Dakota Homestead Title Insurance Company has formed a reinsurance relationship with The Security Title Guarantee Corporation of Baltimore and First American Title Insurance Company (NYSE: FAF). Policies are "risk-shared" up to $1,000,000 in liability with The Security Title Guarantee Corporation of Baltimore. On a typical $1,000,000 policy, Dakota Homestead retains $500,000 of liability and Security Title Guarantee retains $500,000 of liability. Any liability above $1,000,000 and up to $5,000,000 is ceded to First American Title Insurance Company. Policies in excess of $5,000,000 are insured this same way up to the $5,000,000 limit and excess liability is insured on a case by case basis with either First American or another company.
